BLACK SEA TATTOO, REGINA · SEO AND AEO
Top five in organic local search, from changes to the site alone
From a site that rarely mentioned Regina, to the top five organic results for its highest-intent local searches.
Problem
When I started, Black Sea Tattoo wasn't on Google's first page for its main local searches, most of its Squarespace SEO fields had been left blank, and the owner didn't want his Google Business Profile changed.
Strategy
With the Google Business Profile off limits, the work stayed on the site itself, which meant the organic results rather than the map listings. The aim was to make the site state clearly what the studio does and where it is, so that search engines and answer engines can both read it. The measures were rankings for the highest-intent local searches and inclusion in AI Overviews, with calls and inquiries as the owner reported them.
Execution
I started with a live audit of the site alongside the owner, pointing out the obvious fixes as I found them, which gave him enough confidence in the work to hand over his login. From there I ran a full audit and made the changes myself. On the SEO side, that meant completing every blank Squarespace SEO field, writing page titles and descriptions, cleaning up URL slugs, setting the business information, adjusting heading structure, making light alt-text edits, and adding the city name to every page. On the AEO side, I updated the FAQ and about page and expanded the site's statements about the studio with clearer location details.
Results
Top five organic results for its highest-intent local searches within a month, inclusion in Google AI Overviews, and the owner reporting a few more calls and some form submissions, though these went unmeasured, since the site had no Search Console or analytics.
